A strait about 31 km long that connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and separates Europe from Asia. At its narrowest point it is about 700 metres wide, and three bridges cross it. The waterside mansions, palaces and fortresses along its shores can be seen during the boat trip.
Heybeliada is the second largest of the Princes' Islands in the Sea of Marmara. The island is home to the Naval High School, founded in 1773, and the Halki Seminary, which was closed in 1971. There is no general traffic on the island; people get around by electric vehicle, bicycle and on foot.
A historic trading and pier district in the Fatih district, where the Golden Horn opens onto the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara. The Spice Bazaar, the New Mosque and the Galata Bridge, which links to Karaköy, are here; thanks to its ferry piers, it is one of the city's busiest transport hubs.
