Places to see

  • Safranbolu bazaar

From the 13th century until the arrival of the railway, Safranbolu was an important caravan stop on the East-West trade route, and it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. In the bazaar area, blacksmiths and coppersmiths still work using traditional methods.

  • Hıdırlık Hill

The hill to the south of the town is a viewpoint with a panoramic view of Safranbolu's historic houses and rooftops. It has two historic monuments and has hosted open-air events in the past.

  • Kaymakamlar House

A traditional Safranbolu house dating from the early 19th century and turned into a museum. With its stone ground floor and timber upper floor, its central hall (sofa), built-in bathing cupboards and carved ceilings, the building shows the life of the period.

  • Cinci Han

This caravanserai, dated 1645, was built by Cinci Hoca of Safranbolu. One of the examples of the classic Ottoman urban inn plan, the building has been restored and now serves as a hotel; right next to it is the Cinci Hamam from the same period.

  • Yemeniciler Arasta

Historically, this was the bazaar where the workshops of the makers of yemeni, traditional handmade shoes, were located. Today people visit it for its handicraft and souvenir shops.

  • Yörük Köyü

About 11 km from Safranbolu, the village resembles an open-air museum with its protected historic houses and streets. You can see mansions open to visitors, such as the Sipahioğlu Mansion, and the historic laundry house that has been turned into an art gallery.

  • Amasra

A town on the Black Sea coast in Bartın province, known in antiquity as Sesamos and Amastris. Its main structures are Amasra Castle, begun in the Roman period with walls extended by the Byzantines and the Genoese, and a 9th-century Byzantine church converted into a mosque in 1460.

  • Kemere Bridge

A single-arched stone bridge in Amasra linking the mainland with the Boztepe-Zindan side. It is thought to date from the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius (1st century AD).

  • Devrek

A district in Zonguldak province known for its handmade Devrek walking sticks; the Devrek Walking Stick and Culture Festival has been held every July since 1984.
